My parents drained my backup account for Greece after telling me vacations were wasteful. Dad threw a rock through my windshield and yelled, “That money was ours.” I called police and showed the receipt trail: every flight, suite, and spa booking carried my name, and Mom went pale.

When I came back out, Dad was still pacing across my living room, telling me he would cut me off from the family. Mom cried without apologizing. My sister asked if I felt proud of myself, and I looked at the receipt trail on my phone: flights, suite, spa, driver, all of it attached to my account.

The knock came ten minutes later. Two officers stepped inside, and the room changed temperature without a window opening. I pointed through the front door at the shattered windshield and said I wanted to file a report.

Dad’s mouth opened, then closed. Mom looked from the officers to the phone in my hand, and when I showed the first receipt, her face went pale. The officer asked if I had any other proof, and I told him there was more than proof; there was a text, a bank claim, and a camera angle clean enough to end the argument.

They led Dad outside while Mom stood frozen beside the couch. My sister stopped smiling. I thought that would be the worst moment of the morning, but then my phone buzzed again, this time with a reminder from my sister’s university billing office, and I realized the account was not the only place my name had been carrying them.

The police car was barely out of the driveway when my mother started whispering that I had gone too far.

I asked her whether the rock was too far, or the trip, or the text where my brother admitted they counted on me not checking. She did not answer any of it. She only kept saying, “Your father is humiliated,” like humiliation mattered more than theft.
