PART 3: THE LIST NEVER ENDS
The next morning I woke early out of habit and started tidying while the house was still quiet. The children were asleep. For a few minutes, wiping down the counter in the gray early light, I let myself feel almost peaceful.
Then Melissa appeared, phone already in her palm.
“Oh good, you’re up.” She didn’t look at me. “The bathroom needs cleaning. And the kids need lunches packed.”
