They asked Frank to rebuild one of the shelves because they suddenly decided they wanted it three inches higher.
Then, after Frank had already purchased the materials and begun preparing everything, they changed their minds about the stain.
Every change cost additional time and money.
But Grandpa never lost his temper.
He would come home, sit down at the dinner table, and complain about them for a few minutes.
Then he’d say the same thing.
“They’re paying for custom work. I’ll give them custom work.”
So he did.
Every measurement was checked.

By the final week, the downstairs looked incredible.
The custom cabinets stretched across one wall.
The floor-to-ceiling bookcases framed the fireplace perfectly.
The window bench ran along the back wall, fitted precisely beneath the windows.
It looked like something from a luxury home magazine.
