MY HIGH SCHOOL BOYFRIEND DUMPED ME FOR GAINING WEIGHT AFTER MY PARENTS DIED. 20 YEARS LATER HE DIDN’T RECOGNIZE ME AT THE REUNION.
HE FLIRTED WITH ME, MOCKED HIS OWN WIFE, AND ASKED ME TO LEAVE WITH HIM. SO I MADE A PHONE CALL — AND HE WENT PALE.
Chapter 1: The Boy Who Couldn’t Place Me
My high school boyfriend dumped me because I gained weight — 20 years later, he didn’t recognize me at our class reunion, and I used it to my advantage.
My name is Emily. I was sixteen when my parents died in a car accident. I fell apart, ate to cope, went on antidepressants, and gained over sixty pounds in a year. My boyfriend Jason, instead of supporting me, told me to hit the gym and asked me not to be seen leaving class with him. Then he cheated on me with Katherine — « have you looked at her and then looked at yourself? »
I counted down to graduation, moved away, pulled myself together, got healthy, and moved on.
Twenty years later, I went to the reunion in a beautiful dress. Jason walked in with his wife — the same Katherine. He didn’t recognize me. He bought me a drink, flirted, called me beautiful while his wife stood across the room, and joked that Katherine had « really let herself go » after three kids. Then he asked me to leave with him somewhere quieter.
He hadn’t changed at all.
So I smiled. « Give me ten minutes. » And I made a phone call, and asked someone to come as fast as he could.
I brought him straight to Jason.
And Jason went pale.
