«A beautiful bracelet… But your husband bought two,» the saleswoman said. I smiled—until I realized who the second one might be for.

For twenty-six years, I had been forced to live with only half the truth.

But now the truth was standing right outside my home.

I walked to the door, placed my hand on the handle, and paused for a moment.

Then I opened it.

The young woman looked at me.

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Mom?” she whispered.

That one word destroyed everything inside me that I had kept locked away for so many years. I stepped forward and hugged my daughter.

And it was then that I understood the most painful truth.

Martin hadn’t been cheating on me with another woman. He had betrayed me in a much deeper way.

He had taken away my daughter’s first steps from me.

Her first word.

Her first birthday.

Her first tears.

But now I was holding in my arms the life that had been taken from me.

And I didn’t know whether, after this embrace, I should forgive my husband… or finally leave him alone in the very silence in which he had forced me to live for twenty-six years.
