I STOPPED FOR A WOMAN COLLAPSING ON THE ROADSIDE AND LOST MY JOB FOR BEING LATE. “THIS IS A BUSINESS, NOT A CHARITY,” MY BOSS SAID.

BUT WHEN I CAME BACK FOR MY DESK, HE WAS STANDING THERE WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EXPRESSION — BECAUSE OF WHO SHE WAS.

PART 1

I stopped for a woman collapsing on the roadside and lost my job for being late — but when I came back for my desk, my whole life changed.

My name is Julian. I was running late to the biggest presentation of my career when a woman collapsed beside the road, grabbing her chest. I couldn’t drive past. I stayed with her until the ambulance came, and I got to the office too late. The clients were gone.

“You missed the biggest client we’ve had all year because some stranger looked sick?” my boss Caleb said. “This is a business, not a charity. Pack your things. You’re done.”

Nobody defended me. I walked to my car and screamed one raw, broken sound, with no idea how I’d tell my wife, or how long our savings would last.

And no idea that the woman I’d stopped to help was already trying to find me.

Or that when I came back for the things on my desk, Caleb would be standing there with a completely different expression.

Because the woman who collapsed in my arms wasn’t just anyone.

She was the reason there’d been a meeting that morning at all.
