I Lost My Job Over A Missing Ring Until Security Uncovered The Truth

Over the past year, he had become one of the few people there I genuinely trusted.

The moment I answered, I knew something was wrong.

His voice was tight.

“Rachel, you need to come back.”

I sat upright.

“Marcus, they fired me yesterday.”

“I know.”

“I can’t just walk into the hotel.”

“I know that too.”

“Then what happened?”

He paused.

“I reviewed the footage again.”

My heart started beating faster.

“And?”

“I saw something we missed.”

“What?”

Another silence.

Then he said,

“You’re not going to believe what that woman left behind for you.”

My stomach tightened.

“What do you mean, left behind for me?”

“Just come here.”

“Marcus—”

“You need to see it yourself.”

Something in his voice stopped me from asking anything else.

I got dressed.

Grabbed my coat.

And went straight back to the hotel.

Marcus met me near the employee entrance.

He quickly led me into the security office and closed the door.

“What is going on?”

Instead of answering, he sat in front of the monitors.

“Watch.”

He pulled up footage from the previous morning.

At first, I saw exactly what management had shown me the day before.

Mrs. Carter and her husband leaving their room.

Several minutes passing.

Then me appearing in the hallway with my cart.

I entered the suite.

Later, I came back out.

Nothing unusual.

“Marcus, I’ve already seen this.”

“I know.”

He rewound the footage.

Then slowed it down.

“Don’t watch yourself this time.”

I leaned toward the screen.

“What should I watch?”

“Her.”

He zoomed in.

And suddenly, I noticed it.

A movement.

Small.

Fast.

Easy to miss if you weren’t looking for it.

“Wait.”

Marcus paused the video.

My entire body went cold.

“What is that?”

“That’s why I called you.”

He backed it up.

Played it again.

This time, I watched Mrs. Carter closely before she left the room.

Not her husband.

Not the hallway.

Her.

And there it was.

Right before stepping out, she deliberately placed something in a specific spot inside the suite.

She didn’t drop it.

She didn’t forget it.

She positioned it carefully.

Exactly where the person cleaning the room would be likely to find it.

Where I would find it.

My mouth went dry.

“Play it again.”
