I tried to be brave… but tonight, I feel like a child again.
Tomorrow could change my life forever… and I’m not ready.
My name is Ethan. This photo was taken just a few hours ago, in a quiet hospital room. The lights are soft, but everything still feels too real. My face is swollen, my skin hurts, and every breath reminds me that something inside me is not okay.
The doctors said the surgery will help me. They said it is my best chance. But they also warned me… things might not be the same after. I keep thinking about that. What if I wake up different? What if I don’t wake up at all?
My mom sat next to me earlier. She held my hand so tight, like she was afraid to let go. She smiled, but I saw her tears when she turned away. My dad didn’t say much. He just nodded and told me, “You’re strong.” But I know he’s scared too.
I wrote this note because I don’t know how to say it out loud. I’m afraid. Not just of the pain… but of losing the life I know. The small things. Family dinners. Laughing for no reason. Feeling normal.
Tonight, I will try to sleep… but my mind won’t stop.
What if tomorrow is the start of a new life…
or the end of everything I know?
This photo… it’s raw, honest, and a little scary, I know. This is what I look like now, on the outside, after so much struggle. A little swollen, with purple marks that tell stories of intense treatments, and this tiredness that seems to have become my companion. And this thumbs-up?
