My Daughter Asked Me to Watch Her Kids – 10 Days Later, She Came Back with a Different Baby, and I Called the Police

She promised she’d be back before dinner. Ten days later, she appeared in my driveway, bruised, exhausted, and holding a baby no one knew existed.

The officer pulled off the baby’s sock.

A white plastic band circled her ankle.

Not a hospital bracelet.

This one was thinner, with a tiny black square embedded near the clasp.

Then he grabbed his radio.

“Dispatch, I need Major Crimes and Child Protection at this address. Possible live tracking device. Infant involved.”

My daughter, Emily, sat on my couch with both hands folded in her lap.

She didn’t look surprised.

She looked relieved.

“What do you mean, tracking device?”

The second officer moved toward the front window and closed the curtains.

“Ma’am, step away from the glass.”
