Statements from former employees who had worked beside her.
She visited legal-aid offices.
Most were overwhelmed.
Some told her the case would be difficult because the Hamiltons had resources, influence, and one of the strongest civil litigation firms in the city.
Then she met Maya Patel.
Maya was twenty-six and still completing her legal training under a nonprofit advocacy clinic.
