Clara opened the door but did not invite him inside.
“I wanted to tell you what happened,” he said.
She waited.
“My mother is no longer living at the estate.”
Clara said nothing.
“She is cooperating with the investigation. Her lawyers are handling the rest.”
“That is between your family and the authorities.”
Adam nodded.
“I also came to offer you your position back.”
Clara almost smiled.
Not because the offer pleased her.
Because it showed how much Adam still had to understand.
“No.”
He looked surprised despite everything.
“Clara, the salary would be substantially increased.”
“It isn’t about salary.”
“You would have complete authority over household staff.”
