Part 2 ⬇️
My hands were shaking so badly I could barely dial Emily’s number.
She didn’t pick up.
Of course she didn’t — she was still at work.
I stood there on the pavement in my slippers, heart pounding, replaying every word I’d just heard.
*”You know WHY I married her.
You know exactly WHAT I need.”*
What did that mean?
What could he possibly need from my daughter?
I forced myself to go back inside.
I had to act normal.
I had to.
Joon looked up when I walked in and smiled at me — that same warm smile I’d always trusted.
“Everything okay?” he asked in English.
“Just needed some air,” I said.
But Young-ho wouldn’t meet my eyes.
He stared at the table, jaw tight, like a man waiting for something terrible to arrive.
Then Joon’s phone buzzed on the table.
He glanced at the screen and his whole body went still.
He stood up quickly.
“Excuse me,” he said, and walked to the hallway.
Young-ho watched him go.
Then he looked at me — really looked at me — and for just a moment, I saw something in his face.
Not anger.
Not guilt.
Fear.
That’s when I noticed the folder sitting on the chair beside him.
A thick envelope with Emily’s name written across the front in Korean.
Young-ho saw me looking at it.
He placed his hand over it slowly.
And said nothing.
—
What’s inside that envelope — and what was Joon hiding when he married Emily?
