The strong movement caused damage to homes, buildings and infrastructure in different areas.
Emergency crews continue to inspect structures that could pose a risk to the population and look for possible people trapped in the rubble.
The situation has also led to disruptions and difficulties in some areas, complicating the work of rescue teams.
Government declares national disaster situation
Given the magnitude of the emergency, the Colombian Government declared a situation of national disaster to facilitate the coordination of response, care and recovery.
Relief agencies remain deployed while a more complete assessment of the damage is being carried out.
The quake was also perceived in other countries
The earthquake was strong enough to be perceived outside of Colombia. Reports were recorded of people who felt the movement in areas of Panama and Venezuela.
