Eight minutes after our divorce became official, my ex-husband looked at me with a smug little smile and said I was walking away with nothing. But as I left with my children and two passports in my hand, he had no idea the folder waiting in my car was about to destroy the future his family had already begun celebrating.

“Mom, shut up!” Bradley snapped, his face draining of all color. He turned to Tiffany, his eyes wild. “Tiffany… what is he talking about? Early March? Who were you with in March?!”

Tiffany backed up against the headboard of the bed, her practiced, innocent smile collapsing into sheer panic. “Bradley, listen to me—the doctor is confused! It’s a mistake! Sarah must have set this up!”

“The hospital records don’t lie, Miss Vance,” the legal representative interrupted, stepping forward with a tablet. “And neither do the security logs from the Grand Horizon Luxury Residences. Between January and April, corporate credit cards belonging to Bradley’s firm were used to lease Suite 402 under the name of Mr. Julian Mercer—your primary partner and former employer.”

A collective gasp echoed from the hallway. Brittany’s mouth fell open. Margaret dropped the tissue paper and the blue blanket onto the sanitized floor.
