“Mark!” Chloe snapped, her voice losing all its sweet, honeyed tone. She snatched the papers from the table, her eyes scanning the divorce petition and the frozen bank statement. “Wait. This says she gets everything? The money is frozen? What about the life insurance you promised me?”
“She took it! She took the evidence!” Mark sobbed, clutching his hair. “I’m ruined, Chloe. I don’t have access to a single dime. The joint accounts are drained. I… I have nothing.”
The transformation in Chloe was instantaneous and brutal. The loving mistress vanished, replaced by a calculating predator realizing the trap was empty. “You mean to tell me,” she hissed, stepping over his trembling legs, “that you dragged me to this depressing, stinking house, promising me a mansion, and you are actually a broke, unemployed loser?”
“Please, Chloe, just give me a few days to fix this! I’ll call Richard!”
