I was expecting my fifth child when my marriage fell apart.
For thirteen years, I believed my husband, Daniel, and I had built a secure life together. We were raising four children, and I thought our family was strong.
Then one afternoon, I came home earlier than expected. Daniel was on the phone. He did not know I could hear him.
“I’ll see you later,” he said warmly. “I’ll find a reason to leave. She never questions me.”
When he turned and saw me, he did not deny it. He told me he had been involved with someone else for a long time. That person was my younger sister.
I could not understand how two people I trusted had made choices that would hurt our whole family. Still, I began the divorce process and tried to focus on protecting my children.
Not long afterward, Daniel and my sister announced that they were getting married. I hoped my parents would understand why I could not celebrate with them. Instead, they urged me to accept the situation and move forward. Their response made an already painful time even harder.
