My husband secretly married his mistress while I was at work, then returned from his “business trip” expecting to walk back into my $10 million bungalow. But his key no longer worked, because the wife he betrayed had already sold the palace he thought he owned.

I called her immediately. She answered on the second ring like she had been waiting for me.

“Audrey,” she said, almost cheerful. “You saw the pictures?”

My throat felt full of sand. “What exactly am I looking at?”

“The future,” she said. “And honestly, the correction of a mistake. You should accept it with dignity. Tiffany is pregnant. My son deserves a real family.”

A real family.

I looked at the contract glowing on my laptop. The signatures. The numbers. The profit. The money that paid for Robert’s watch, his sports car, his credit card bills, his mother’s spa memberships, and Tiffany’s salary. And this woman had the nerve to speak to me as if I were the useless one.

“Does Robert know you posted that?” I asked.

She laughed. “Everyone knows, darling. You were the only one kept out because you would have caused drama. Don’t humiliate yourself now. Be graceful.”
