“I don’t understand,” I said, pretending to be confused. “Who would want to hurt Marcus? He was such a good man.”
“That’s what we’re trying to figure out. Did Marcus have any enemies? Anyone who might want him dead?”
I shook my head.
“Everyone loved Marcus. He was kind and gentle.”
Then I pretended to have a sudden realization.
“Wait, there is something. I’ve been feeling sick for the past few months. Stomach problems, hair loss, fatigue. My doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me.”
Detective Rivera leaned forward.
“What are you saying?”
“What if someone was trying to poison me, and Marcus ate the wrong food by mistake?”
I could see the detective’s mind working.
“Do you have any idea who might want to hurt you?”
This was my chance.
“I’ve been having some problems with my sister Sophia. She’s always been jealous of my business success, and lately she’s been spending a lot of time with Marcus when I’m not home.”
