The contraction eased.
Audrey inhaled.
“How long?”
“Forty-eight seconds,” Diana said. “Audrey, listen carefully. The first paramedics are entering the east corridor now.”
A heavy pounding struck the door.
“Emergency medical services!” a voice shouted. “Can you hear us?”
Audrey almost cried from relief.
“Yes!”
The handle rattled.
“It’s locked from the outside,” she called.
“We’re opening it.”
There was movement in the hallway, followed by the sharp scrape of metal. Someone shouted for a tool. Another voice ordered people to clear the corridor.
Then Audrey heard Julian.
“What are you doing back here?”
The hallway went quiet for a fraction of a second.
“This is a medical emergency, sir,” a paramedic replied.
“You can’t bring equipment through this hall. The reception is being filmed.”
Audrey stared at the door.
Even now.
Even after leaving her alone on the floor, he was thinking about the wedding video.
