“Are you all right?”
I looked at her name tag.
Natalie.
“My husband is the captain.”
Her eyes changed.
She knew immediately.
“You’re Maya.”
Caleb looked up.
Natalie sat slightly on the armrest across from us.
“He didn’t know you were aboard.”
“I gathered that.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“Do you know who Simone Ellis is?”
Natalie hesitated.
That hesitation told me more than an answer could have.
“You do.”
“I’ve seen her.”
“How many times?”
“I shouldn’t—”
“How many times?”
Caleb was listening.
I lowered my voice.
Natalie glanced at him.
“Several.”
My stomach turned.
“On his flights?”
“Yes.”
“Did they act like…”
I couldn’t finish.
Natalie seemed to understand.
“Not exactly.”
That was not reassuring.
“What does that mean?”
“I saw them speaking.
Sometimes intensely.
Once he left the airport with her.”
Caleb’s hand found mine.
I forced myself to stay calm.
