Daniel turned toward me.
“Tell her to record everything.”
Before I could repeat it, Richard’s voice came through Lily’s phone.
“Give me that.”
“Dad, no.”
The call ended.
I went to ship security, showed them the message, and asked them to contact authorities near Lily’s apartment.
Frank remained while the officer made the call.
“They found her,” the officer said ten minutes later.
“She’s safe.
Your husband left before security arrived.”
I pressed both hands to the desk.
“Can you get me off at the next port?”
Beth stepped beside me.
“Frank and I are leaving with you.”
“You don’t have to.”
“No,” she said.
“But we can.”
By the next evening, Ruth met us at the airport.
Lily was waiting at her apartment with red eyes and folded arms.
Richard stood beside her.
“You brought him here?” I asked.
“I invited my father,” Lily said.
