I took a solo cruise after my husband divorced me—on Day Four, a stranger sat at my table and whispered, “I’m the reason your husband left you.” Then he reached into his pocket.

The officer nodded.

“We can arrange that.”

Daniel handed over the envelope without arguing.

Frank sent copies to his attorney daughter in Portland.

Beth stayed beside me while I called my sister, Ruth, and asked her to meet me when the ship returned.

An hour later, Lily finally sent Richard’s DNA report.

Frank enlarged the laboratory seal on his phone.

“This company closed twelve years ago,” he said.

“So the report is false?”

“Probably.

But look at the date.”

It had supposedly been issued eight days earlier.

Daniel touched the name at the bottom.

“That doctor never worked for that laboratory.”

“You know him?”

His jaw tightened.

“Yes.

Dr.

Malcolm Price ran the fertility clinic where Richard took me.”

My phone rang again.“Lock your door,” I told Lily.

“He has a key.”

“Call building security.”

“Mom, he’s my father.”

“And he just sent me a photograph of you as a warning.”
