“According to the trust documents, the succession arrangement doesn’t actually require the next generation to be male. It gives Richard discretion over certain appointments, but it does not automatically exclude daughters.”
I frowned.
“Then why would Spencer believe the baby had to be a boy?”
Amanda looked at Chloe.
“Because someone told him that was the condition.”
The next day, Richard Hayes requested a private meeting.
Chloe agreed to attend, but only with Amanda present.
I went with her.
We met in a conference room at the Hayes Industrial Group headquarters. Richard sat at the far end of a long mahogany table, his silver hair neatly combed and his expression unreadable.
Spencer was beside him.
He looked exhausted.
Richard began without greeting us.
“This situation has become unnecessarily destructive.”
Amanda placed a folder on the table.
“Then perhaps we should start with the documents.”
Richard ignored it.
“My son made a poor decision. I am prepared to offer Chloe financial support during the pregnancy, provided she signs a confidentiality agreement and agrees not to pursue further claims.”
