Daniel leaned toward the phone.
“You should have changed your lies, Richard.
You’ve used that one too long.”
Richard went silent.
“Is Lily Daniel’s biological daughter?” I asked.
“That man is blackmailing me.”
“Is she?”
“You’re upset.
Go to your cabin and lock the door.”
“Did you forge my signature?”
“I protected our family.”
Daniel gave a bitter laugh.
“There it is.”
“Stay out of this,” Richard snapped.
“You took the money.”
I stared at Daniel.
“How much?”
“Five hundred dollars a month.”
“For twenty-five years?”
“It stopped six months ago when I told him Lily needed the genetic test.”
Richard’s voice hardened.
“If you frighten her with your medical problems, Daniel, I’ll make sure you return every dollar.”
“You divorced me because of this?” I asked.
“I divorced you because Daniel threatened to destroy everything.”
“No,” Daniel said.
“He divorced you because you started asking about the missing money.”
