On My Wedding Night, My Father-in-Law Pressed $1,000 Into My Hand and Whispered, “If You Want to Live, Run.”

I said no.

Whether I had received money from Blackwood Holdings.

No.

Whether I had authorized any transfers.

No.

He took notes.

Then he asked me to describe my work at Harrison Development Group.

I explained that I handled project accounting, vendor reconciliations, and financial reporting for several commercial developments.

Daniel paused.

“Did Blackwood Holdings have access to any of those projects?”

“Yes. They were involved in two joint ventures.”

He exchanged a look with Rebecca.

And for the first time, I understood that the danger might have begun long before Adrian proposed.

Over the next several days, Rebecca and Daniel began examining the available records.

They also helped me notify the appropriate institutions that I disputed the authority purportedly granted through documents I believed had been misrepresented.

I secured my personal accounts, changed passwords, and reviewed my credit reports.

I informed my employer that I might have been the victim of identity misuse connected to a business relationship.
